Michael Murphy -- not the Wildfire guy, but the one who posts in these forums -- has done a write up on Konung for us. He'd love to know what you think. I only wish I had posted this article last week when the game was on sale at CompUSA for $5.

I can't see wanting to play Konung over any of the games it tries to clone. The Diablo games and the Balder's Gate stuff is much better. Combat is very tedious, especially once your party gets bigger in size.

So Mark, Qt3 is accepting outside article donations?

There's a lot of truth in this. I must admit, I certainly don't play it as much as I do Baldur's Gate. But, if you're looking for something different...

Tell us about that merchant class. That's a weird one for an RPG. What does your merchant hero do to monsters? Haggle them to death?

I thought that one was weird, too, but rather original. In combat, the merchant is decent, at best. Not as good at melee as the warrior, not as good with a bow as a hunter. His real uniqueness comes in that he can carry a whole lot more stuff than the other characters, has a naturally better armor class, and can haggle with the shopkeepers in town to get goods at lower prices. A new idea, but a good one, I think.
