Core Magazine is reporting that Flextronics had a loss of $329.8 million bucks. Last year they had profits of $49 million. They claim it was due to restructuring but they're still laying people off and cutting manufacturing space.

Effects on Xbox? Probably none. The Xbox is made in Mexico though. Where are the other consoles produced? Sony probably uses Mexico too, but what about Nintendo? Anyone have that info?

Weird. Just last night I read an article in the new issue of WIRED that focused on Flextronics and its manufacturing of the xbox. The CEO of the company was going on and on (as was the author of the story) about how well the company has been doing over the past year or so.

I'd be interested to read the article you referenced. Is it on stands now?

It's a website, and a good one at that. I forgot to put the link in there when I typed this up. Here's the link.

Sony produces the PS2 in various Asian factories. Japan, Taiwan and Singapore- I think.

Both the Gamecube and PS2 are produced in Asia and shipped here via...er...ship. In fact, I remember a news story during the PS2 shortages last christmas where Sony was losing a lot MORE money than usual on a shipment of PS2s because they were sending them by plane to get more stock out in time for the holidays.

Flextronics is firing people at high cost areas and moving to cheaper areas such as Eastern Europe and Mexico. The say they had record sales in the quarter and will have a new record for the next quarter. By March 2002 all the losses in space and people will be made up in the new cheaper areas.
