I'm sure by the time you guys read this that you will already know.

But we've just attacked Afghanistan.

Finally the day I've been waiting for for weeks is here. And I think maybe only a handful of President's could have worked as well as Bush has since he came into term, since the hijacking's happened.

Wow.

Yeah, interesting stuff going on. I hope they find bin Laden.

I'm also hearing that we have U.S. military planes in the air flying near football stadiums today. Guess they want to avoid a Black Sunday.

Ok, back to watching football. Does that make me shallow?

Nope, I was just cursing my Redskins for blowing yet another game. Well, at least they didn't lose by 30 again.

Pro football sucks. I like the college stuff.

Xaroc,
I was at the Monday Night game vs the Pack a couple weeks ago. As a semi-Redskins fan, I feel for you. As a Packer fan, I laugh at you.

Today's loss to Tampa hurts... but 3 and 0 is a hell of a buffer and, 120 degrees on the field? That was sort of a reverse Lambeau. (Tampa fans like to bitch, rightfully, that Tampa always loses their last matchup vs the Pack because, at Lambeau in late December, it gets down to -10 usually).

Don't even talk to me about College football Grenz... did you hear about UW Madison yesterday? Ugh. (63-35, I believe, was the final indignity.)

I'm still agonizing over the dismal showing Oregon State has made this year... What the hell went wrong? Everything looked so good on paper. Good QB, great running back, great DBs. Still a record of 1-3 in a year they were supposed to be national contenders. Things started looking up in the 2nd half of the last game, against Washington State, when they pulled all the starters and played the bench-warmers who brought the Beaves back from the brink and within a touchdown of a tie and overtime.

At least the University of Oregon Ducks are still kicking ass and taking names. Got your score beat, 63-28 over Arizona. Still undefeated. Ranked #5 in the AP poll.

You know, I'd probably like Pro football more is I had a local team to root for here in Oregon. Seattle is just too far away for me to care.

Thanks Bub you are all heart. ;)

This season is a write off. They are on track to score 4 TDs all year. I want to stop watching but it is like a train wreck.

As some small degree of solace my fantasy draft team in Madden 2002 is 7-0. :)

And where Brett Favre is the Ice King! I bet the Pack gets the win back at the end of the season.

To stay on topic, I'll mention something that pissed me off this weekend. Apparently some communities of immigrants here in America were cheering over the 9/11 attacks. They come here, take advantage of the land and opportunity, and then cheer when terrorism strikes.

That is not right. This may not be their country, but for now at least, it is their home. They should respect it or go back to their country.

Would you mind proving this statement with a news report from a mainstream news publication? I sincerely doubt this is true on any significant scale. The immigrants in my community are too busy hiding from the rednecks who are spitting on their daughters, slashing their tires, and throwing bricks through their windows to do any "celebrating."

There are, what, 260 million people in the US, folks that we have to classify, at least technically, as homo sapiens sapiens. That there are a few who might cheer terrorism comes as no surprise--basic statistical probability points to such aberrations. That there are more, but thankfully still few, who seem to think anyone with an accent and headgear is somehow evil is also regretably inevitable.

A pox on them all, but neither group is representative of anything much more than the truism that in any group of people a set portion are idiots.

I understand your reaction Bernie, but I disagree with your conclusion. You're probably addled, living in Texas and all, but the beauty of this country is you CAN cheer things like the 9/11 attacks if you want. As odious as I find it, you can. Yay America!

Now, I also know that many of those stories you're hearing are false. There's only one I believe and it involves students in the Chicago area (I believe it only because my mother saw it).

So far as Favre being the Ice King of Lambeau... Farve is Snow Miser, Sapp is Heat Miser.

Too much.

I never said anyone couldn't. I also believe those supporting the attacks are probably the exception rather than the rule.

"There's only one I believe and it involves students in the Chicago area (I believe it only because my mother saw it). "

That's the one. I also heard of a tire store owned by immigrants that was vandalized, so yes, it goes both ways.

For all you people who want to bitch about football, please keep this in mind:

I'm in Dallas.

My only other choice for Texas pro football is that new team in Houston.

Pity me.

After 30+ years of pathetic Packer rosters you think I can ever pity a gloried and consistently good Dallas team's stumble?

Pity no. I revel in it!

If anything, the parity system indicates that Dallas can make a speedy comeback. Geez, look at the Saints, Chargers, Ravens, Eagles and, look at the Rams!

The 'Boys were 1-15 in the 80's one year.

Yeah, and the Packers were above 50% one year under Lindy Infante in the 80's.

1989 was the 1-15 year; the one win came against Washington.

Dallas will be back in the hunt; staking everything on a relatively small and mobile rookie QB was a huge mistake at the beginning of the season. Anthony Wright should get the remainder of the starts this year, and Quincy Carter needs to learn how to throw a bigger football.

Should be a good game next week :)

Alan has a point. I know the MNF crew poked fun at their next game, but a rivalry always seems to spark competition. When Dallas and Washington get together, you never know...it's sort of like those wild Broncos/Raiders games.

Ugh. I can't imagine the Cowboys-Redskins game will be good. Dropped passes, penalties, missed blocks, poor tackling -- it sounds like a real stinker.

One thing they could do that would make me tune in. You know how they mike up a player or two? I'd love to hear Jerry Jones and Dan Synder miked up. Heh.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Bub (Bub) on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 - 01:53 pm:

Yeah, that'd be hilarious. Snyder's been saying some "stupider-than-normal" things lately to the press, it'd be funny to hear him during a game.

The game itself couldn't be worse to watch than last monday though Mark. Sure, as much as YOU enjoyed it, there was nothing for the rest of us to see (except Detroit's dueling inept QBs). Sort of like that Redskins Packers game...

Poor MNF. Everyone thinks it's the announcers who cause the ratings dips. I think it's the folly of trying to predict which teams are worthy of MNF coverage in the preseason.
