I don't know about the rest of you fine people, but I could certainly use a good one-day reprieve from CNN. A bit 'o Wolfenstein would take the edge off, wouldn't it?

Anyone know what time it's expected to launch today?

It's out now, but I'm having a helluva time downloading it successfully.

Not that you'll be able to get through FilePlanet, but if you do, check out this Halo movie to take your mind off things as well:

I was rather impressed by some of it.

About Halo, what's the latest on that? They're still doing a PC version, right?

Who knows... the quickly downed MS site for the game was quoted saying it was exclusive to the XBox.

Then again, the PC isn't exactly a competing platform, and if MS is smart they'll realize they aren't going to loose any sales (not many people have a Geforce3 at the moment, and since the box is comparable in price, it's not likely the PC version will steal any thunder).

Aside from that, after seeing that interview video, I'd love to see it on PC since I'm not about to buy a console.

PS. Mark, if you're looking for better board software, phpBB is free if you've got MySQL and PHP support on your server.

Who needs first person shooters when you'll get the chance to "frag" or be "fragged" for real when the draft starts up in early 2002?

They won't institute the draft, I don't think. If they do, they certainly won't send drafted soldiers onto the battlefield -- we'll be the ones here in the states, manning defensive posts.

If they do institute the draft, I'll see you all there!

I'm pleased to now be too old for the draft, but I was pretty scared when I had to register during the Reagan administration.

WRT Wolfenstein, I finally was able to download it from a site in Germany at abou 40KB/sec. It seems to be a better looking and more balanced version of Day of Defeat. I like how you can change class and weapons to fit different tactical circumstances. I was pretty fearsome with the sniper rifle tonight (about a 5:1 countersniping ratio), which makes me think the hardcore CS players haven't found the game yet. :)

You can shoot the wounded, too, which can be oddly satisfying when you have nailed some spawn-camper or similar ill-mannered breed.

I downloaded it, but I can't get it to find any servers. Looking through the readme, I didn't see anything special I needed to do to get it to work.

I hate to be such a lamer, but I'm new to online gaming and can't figure out what is up with this. Any help?

By default it looks for local servers; in the upper-left hand side of the multiplayer screen switch it from local to internet. Also, make sure you have the right version--Gamespot initially posted the wrong version.

"By default it looks for local servers"

I bet that's it. I do rememeber seeing that it said Local and wondering what that meant. Thanks William!

Hey Billiam,

The "wrong" version? How would we know if we had the "wrong" version, and what would the symptoms be?

If you downloaded it from gamespot before they stuck up the proper one.

A note on Blue's said it was an older version, so perhaps there's a difference in the version numbers?
