If I'm not mistaken, this is the Looking Glass flight sim revived?

Xicat gets Jane's

The screens look pretty close to what was being worked on. Was this game saved from bankruptcy?

I hope this is for real. Nice to have some good news for the sim industry. Xicat seems to have an interest in flight sims...

The company noted, Mad Doc Software, is also developing Star Trek Armada II for Activision. The founder (founded in 1999) worked on Armada I. A Google Search turned up a number of links including an interview with Dr. Ian Lane Davis, the founder, conducted by JCal.

So maybe some of the LGS people landed at this studio? Mad Doc's website is just a logo.

It'll be interesting to see how this story pans out. I hope it is the Looking Glass, Attack Squadron sim. Denny had high priase for that game. I was looking forward to it in a big way.

There is some guy on the usenet flight sim group promising the return of Jane's. He's so goddamn cryptic, though, he just comes off like a kook. I guess this is what he's been wanting to tell everyone. Hard to imagine having a secret this big and not being able to share it with someone who would be interested for fear of souring the deal.

Did this "kook" post in a recent thread, Tim?

Yes, Mad Doc ended up with a number of LGS people, if you believe the TTLG reports.

"Did this "kook" post in a recent thread, Tim?"

I don't read the group as regularly as before, but I saw there was a post just the other night with a one word reply of, "Xicat."

He posts annonymously under the name, "Janes Combat Simulations," so the posts are easy enough to spot.

Heh. It's probably Andy Hollis or some other legend and I just called him a kook.

Alan, what are the "TTLG reports" you're referencing?

Sorry, Through the Looking Glass.

Thanks Alan! I should have guessed.

This is the return of a Holy Grail, people. If the Mad Doc people keep the sim the way it was headed when Denny cried over it (so long ago), the Il-2 sim may just have a mondo run for its money.

Time will tell -- we need more information, dammit. Where are the real journalists when we need them???
:)

LOL, well said.

Gordon, looks like we're depending on you for the scoop. Put on your Fedora with the little press badge and start pounding the pavements, man.
