Not too bad !
Quote:HomeLAN - Operation Flashpoint has received a lot of critical success in Europe so far. Can you tell us how many copies have been sold so far and how you feel about its success?
David Solari - Well not all European countries keep regular charts but we have sold around 35,000 units in the UK and a whopping 95,000 in Germany and these 2 territories usually represent around 50% of the European market. We knew it was a great game which took things further, but we are really happy with the sales performance.

Really? I mean that. I'm not really sure what constitutes a big seller, but I thought it would be more.
I assume the US release is going to add to that number big time. I wonder if markets like Asia and Australia have a huge impact.
Someone here must know how to gauge these numbers better than whatever lameness I can come up with.

It's a fairly good figure. Using US Dollars that is 130,000 units X $40 = $5,200,000.
Obviously you have to take off retail and distributor commissions but that still leaves a sizeable amount of money from *just* those two countries.
As for Australia a AAA title like Flashpoint might sell upwards of 5,000 to 10,000 units. That's a lot for the Aussie market.
How this will apply to the US market I have know idea. As a semi-hardcore infantry simulation how will the US market accept Flashpoint ?

If marketed right, I think this game could actually sell pretty well in the US. After all, most of the guys playing computer games like war movies. Go at it from that angle and I think you could grab a lot of casual sales. The box will determine a lot of that though.
If it's a laundry list of vehicles and weapons, forget it. Playing up the drama would be the wise choice; leading your troops down a hill to assault a town at sunrise, tanks rolling through a forest, a confused night fight with bullets whisteling around your head, etc. Don't sell it as a sim, but as something bigger. Then again, I'm just a freak on the net.
