OPERATION FLASHPOINT EDITING CENTER IS NO MORE!

I have decided to no longer support Operation Flashpoint.

Codemasters renigged on a deal to collaborate with me on my editing site. Instead they are going with Seventh's site which :

a) Has no editing site yet
b) Has not supported the editing community except for a forum.
c) Would not put a link to my site since it was considered a "hack" site.

So, instead of wasting my time being a non appreciated, non paid customer support person for BI Studios and Codemasters I decided to exert my efforts elsewhere. I wasn't looking for a medal or anything ... just some acknowledgement and support from the only people who will financially benefit from my hard work.

If you have any questions on how to do mission editing please send them instead to Codemasters or BI Studios care of LustyPooh.

Thanks btw folks. I had fun while the ride lasted and met many nice (and smart) people. Time to enjoy the summer more!

LustyPooh

Damn it to hell ! The best OFP Mission Editing resource has closed shop - and before I downloaded Lusty's command editor reference manual !!! Shit !!!!!

Why? What does he mean by being "non appreciated"? thats a very "grey" way of saying, "They didn't want to pay me for doing fan stuff." I may be wrong, and probably am, but what really did he want? Money? a link? a job? his site was good, had alot of editing details though it doesnt matter much to me since im a "casual" mission maker. but, why suddenly pull the plug... it sounds more out of anger than monetary issues. though maybe it is about money. uhm.... oh well.

etc

I think the old LustyPooh is a bit strange. The Seventh OFP website that he was complaining about has denied they refused to post a link to his website. Apparently they had been trying to get him to join their website to host their Mission Editing section. He refused many times.

Some people just don't want to share the limelight.

Here are some quotes from Jereon Hill who runs the Seventh OFP site :

all you guys keep whining about not us having an editing section, you guys haven't even given us a chance. we're working on an editing section.
we've expanded our crew...

Armourdave, Pheaden, Placebo, Bonez, Reddeth, Target Pratice and Hell Dispoiler are now part of the team and they'll (except Armourdave) will be there for the editing section.

now we also want Lustypooh but he refused, DnA will ask him again, if he refuses, hey too bad.

We have 4 newsposters too that will support Sith and DnA so dont worry.

right now...we have 1 mission...and that is to become the ultimate OFP site.

hell, I've set up a multiplayer system as well.

and as for your comparisons, we never said we were better than Lustypooh. but we also have a right to make our own editing section. but it takes us some time to do.
does it really matter those 3 weeks? does that mean we shouldn't continue? we're doing the best we can and we do it for you people and right now you guys are acting like we're a bunch of loosers that shoudln't be running a fansite at all.

thing is, people are starting to blame us for Lusty closing his site. we never wanted him to do so.

as for my thoughts about his reasons being pathetic, sorry but he really did a great job and was wellknown, he should have continued and showed that he doesn't need CM support.

and now you ozzy are pissed off at me cause I meant he should have continued.

How do people write this stuff with a straight face...

Well it seems to be fairly prevalent in the OFP community to use weird and wacky callsigns/nicks.

Here is CodeMasters' response to the "LustyPooh" incident :

CODEMASTERS' COMMITMENT TO OPERATION FLASHPOINT FANSITES

We were in touch with a number of key fansites, some of whom have been committed to Operation Flashpoint since the game's inception years ago.

One of the sites we approached was www.ofpediting.com (also known as LustyPooh) as we became aware that it already featured a number of excellent resources for mission editing. We knew that the commitment which would be required to maintain a resource site would be massive so we continued to speak to other sites about partnering to make Flashpoint resources easily available for all our customers. At no point was there a commitment from our side to use this site exclusively, in fact it was at this point that we raised concerns with the site's editor about his bandwidth and also time commitments as he was to be the only person working on it.

It became evident that one of the leading fansites, run by Seventh had plans to run a similar resource site. As these guys already had great relationships with the developers and were able to offer the bandwidth and time commitment, we opted to use them as our main resource site rather than LustyPooh.

Despite repeated attempts to discuss our decision with the editor of Lustypooh, we have so far been unable to make contact with him - it has been particularly disappointing to see him close down his site as we thought it offered a valuable service to the fans of Flashpoint.

What is more disappointing is to see us accused of trying to close down sections of fansites to gain the monopoly of online traffic, which couldn't be further from the truth.

We are committed to building the Operation Flashpoint online community, to shut down fansites would make no commercial sense. The only war we intend to fight is piracy.

Yeah...and all these fansites aren't business ventures? Now we've got game companies sending out press releases regarding them. These aren't fans, they're vultures.

Maybe it's time to turn off the faucet and quit talking to the "fans" and trying to build "communities". Get back to making the games and getting them out on time in working order.

Codemasters doesnt seem so bad (based on that response)... I really dont know what "fans" are expecting when they put time into a website... a million dollars? cmon...yeesh, there IS a sorta tech reccesion here...its not like two years ago when you could get close to 6 figures designing gaming web pages. Wake up people! Also, I dont think Bohemia Interactive (devs of Operation Flahspoint) HAS to provide extra stuff to "fans". They made the game and they are already supporting it well with the planned patches and having a hefty editor in the game. Personally BI/Codemaster could be the biggest assholes in the world (BI seem like down to earth people reading there interviews), I'd still say Operation Flashpoint ranks as one of my top 5 games of all time... Its already closing in on my BEST GAME EVER MADE territory.

For those who havent tried it... the game is at EB now for America. OFP has also been topping the Euro charts over other PC games like the Sims, D2X, Dune...

Anyway, there are still a lot of other sites for OFP... I've been going to OFP.DK a German site (in English) to replace ofp.com.

etc

Um, I went to this website, and it is all in german, and it appears to have some sort of double headed whip with two skulls as an emblem. It sort of looks like an S&M site rather than a flashpoint site. Is the URL maybe a little different than ofp.dk?

The excerpts of the emails between Codemasters and Lustypooh (heh what a name!), show that there was miscommunication more than any ill doings.

found this . . .

http://www.flashpointdatabase.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Forum&file=viewtopic&topic=20&forum=3

anyway...the poster Phaeden has made some pretty good missions for ofp. dont know how he got these emails though... he makes a good point at the end of the post.
