I'm taking heat from my MMOG guy at present for posting a link in the news to Jessica Mulligans' recent article on WW20's launch. It seemed a harsh, but balanced article, with some excellent points on the MMOG industry in general. He agrees with me that the MMOG part was dead on, but claims the section on the WW2O consisted of "bold lies and exaggerations". I've not played the game so it's difficult for me to comment, but from what I've read it doesn't seem that she is too far off the mark. What do you think?

Read the comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.* hierarchy for comments about it on Google. If anything, she's soft-selling the problems.

How can you feel bad about linking to an opinion piece? It's just an opinion, after all. It's up to the reader to agree or disagree.

Tell your MMOG guy that it's better to link to differing opinions. Your readers should appreciate it. You're giving them a chance to think for themselves.

I've already told him that, Mark, he just thinks that it will hurt his fledgling MMOG section. I don't feel bad about linking it, I thought it was a good article. I'm just trying to find out if she was justified in her attack on the WW2O launch, and it seems as if she was. Thanks for the info :).

Yep, I know this type argument. This is like the time the flight-sim news group was trying to say Tom Chick single handedly killed the flight sim genre with his harsh review of Falcon 4.

It just goes to show. If you have an opinion and can articulate it in a reasonably effective manner, you'll have all sorts of people up in arms. This may be a result of copius bad reviews available that pretty much all say the same thing. It's like, God forbid someone actually have an original opinion.

The latest Flight-Sim Follies I wrote brutalized WW2O. I slammed it because I was actually planning on playing it...rare enough, these days.

Of course, the site where the FSFs are published is owned, interestingly enough, by Playnet. This should be cute ... we'll see if this latest FSF gets put up :)

The best thing that could happen for WWII Online has been the botched launch of Anarchy Online. Now everyone's talking AO and giving the WWII Online people a little breathing room.

Scharmers can post whatever on DF -- not like we're gonna stop him or anything. We have a pretty open policy towards affiliates :)

Well there *is* a content policy, somewhere....

:)

Gay porn and graphic sex with duct-taped hampsters would probably violate the policy, however.
