Silent Hunter II has been released and first impressions have come in plus a review has been posted at SubSim.
Some initial points :
1. The sim only has about 30 missions in total
2. No mission editor
3. Maximum screen resolution is 800x600
The third point is a bummer considering development of SH2 commenced in 2000. I won't be rushing out to buy this one yet.

If I remember correctly, the original Silent Hunter didn't include a mission editor either. It was added later in one of the "Patrol Disks". 30 missions might not sound too bad, but the lack of a mission editor will crimp any longevity or replayability. It's also a shame about the resolution...who uses 800x600 as a maximum resolution anymore? I'll be waiting for the reviews on this one before I pick it up.

Plus there is no dynamic campaign which if memory serves me correctly was included in Silent Hunter I.

Yep, although they've been saying all along that there would be no dynamic campaign. I haven't got a copy yet, but it also sounds like the replayability of the campaign missions is pretty low - if you know what and where the enemy is ahead of time in a sub sim, it isn't a sim, it's a game.
