Okay, the Sopranos isn't a movie, but what the hell. On a lark I picked up the 4-DVD first season set at Wal-Mart.

My wife and I celebrated our newfound immersion in the world of the Sopranos by making baked ziti for dinner and prefacing as many words as possible with "fuckin'".

But seriously. This is a great show. I think it's the best thing HBO has done in years. The buzz is definitely deserved.

I like HBO's Oz almost as much, but it tends to veer into melodrama a bit too often for my tastes. There's always some near-catastrophe on tap there, whereas the Sopranos is much more subtle, content to let its plot developments simmer through an entire season. Though you really can't beat a show where men defecate on each other's faces.

I've been considering picking up that DVD pack for a while now. I never missed an episode when they were originally being run and I'm watching the reruns now (Sunday, 10:00 and 11:00 CST on this HBO II thing we have here. HBO I shows them earlier) in preperation of the next season. It's just one of those shows that grabs you and forces you to watch.

If you haven't seen the show, it's well worth the time to drive over to Wumpus's place and spend 48 hours watching his DVDs. And I hear his wife makes some killer baked ziti, but she has a bit of a potty mouth on her.

Actually the running time is a 'mere' 10 hours, and we managed to watch it all over a weekend. I'm serious, we really were getting 500% of our US RDA of the fuckin' Sopranos.

In our defense, I had only seen two episodes, and she hadn't seen any. ;) Kind of a bummer now, though, because we don't get HBO and therefore can't follow up on the show. Sigh.

Old topic, but what the hell, I like talking about the show. 4 episodes down and the season is looking good. Mostly they are still in setup mode where they're getting the new antagonists established.

I'm disappointed that they didn't show a little more from the FBI perspective when the mother died and their entire "Tony has stolen plane tickets" case fell apart.
