Got the latest COMPUTER GAMES magazine, with a cover feature on "Farscape," the new game based on the sci-fi series.

The graphics look like crap on a cracker, don'tcha think? Who wants to actually play this thing? I enjoy the TV show, but this game looks like a spayed dog.

Oh, I ain't gonna throw nuttin atcha. Half of every episode does seem to involve the characters running around shouting at the top of their lungs at each other about an immenent catastrophe. My housemate hates it when I put the show on as she can't take all of the shouting.

I love Farscape, but I wish they wouldn't sully it with some halfbaked computer game. Didn't they learn anything from all those Star Trek games? Frell them.

Heh, I had the same thought when I got the mag today (the endless CG non-subscription chugs on). I had to wonder if this was an actual game, or just an elaborate practical joke. That or I hadn't actually woken up yet, and was still stuck in dreamyland. I'm still not sure on this last one, by the way, but I digress.

The characters look like they were cut-and-pasted onto desktop backgrounds. The explosions look like they're glued onto the screen. The color scheme gives me 80's Metroid flashbacks.

I am a fan of the show (in post-Summer reruns right now), but all the text in the world couldn't help those screenshots.

But hey, MOO3 preview.

In fact Farscape the game looks like they took that Episode I adventure game from LucasArts from a year or two back and plugged in new graphics.

Love Farscape the show though, sure there's a lot of shouting, but there's a lot to shout about.

The game looks better than that when it's running, actually (most games do, these days), and I wasn't entirely happy with the pics they gave us (I wish I could have snapped a few during the demo). Also, it's still fairly early--the tech is done, but they had just started building levels when I saw it. That's one of the unavoidable perils of previewing a game early in the development cycle, unfortunately.

Even now, however, I think it looks better than Diablo II, which has great art but terrible tech (it was helped a bit by the new 800x600 res that the expansion added, but still falls just this side of "butt ugly" with its limited color pallette and large expanses of mostly empty terrain). So graphics aren't everything...
