Not the fps. Was it you that posted over at GoneGold's forum that Neverwinter Nights has a high probability of being cancelled? Not that I'm shooting the messenger, I'm just looking for confirmation.

hehe Well.. we don't know. At the moment, it appears that Bioware is going to finish NWNs. It just may not be interplay who publishes it.

Complete nonsense. The companies are just playing games with each other because of their ongoing dispute (cancelling message boards, etc.). BioWare cannot publish Neverwinter without Interplay, and Interplay cannot publish Neverwinter without BioWare's help. Both companies are just posturing with each other, which is unfortunate for RPG fans.

Infogrames/Atari is the holder of all current D&D rights. So if Interplay roles over an dies, Bioware could have them publish the game.

FYI, Infogrames is distributing NWN in Europe, Im not sure if Vivendi or Infogrames are handling American distribution.

Interplay has a license for the next year or two I think, as well, though what if anything they do with it is unclear. NWN isn't in danger, I'd definitely agree with Stefan about that (imagine--we agree on something! :-)) In fact, one reason BioWare shut down the NWN boards was to launch their new community system today, something they hired a community manager to run, in particular in anticipation of the NWN community that they expect to burgeon rapidly.

Would you happen to have the link to their new community site?

Bioware didn't shut down the boards. Interplay did and Bioware is setting up an alternative

www.bioware.com. It's supposed to go live at 12 MST, whenever that is :-). They say they will be adding more project-specific sites as the days go on, so I don't know when the NWN bit will be up.

You can read the press release here:
http://www.bioware.com/PressRelease/CommunityVision/BioWareCommunityVision.html

Interplay's licence to publish D&D games actually expires this year, although the licence can be renewed with consent "not to be unreasonably withheld". Interplay has been operating on the assumption that that consent is a rubber stamp -- uh, but it certainly would be reasonable for Infogrames to withhold publishing rights to a fellow French publisher, Titus (which now controls Interplay). That all said, I suspect even if Infogrames threatened to pull the plug, Interplay would just negotiate a deal and give Infogrames a cut of the game's proceeds.

This latest maneuvering between BioWare and Interplay just reflects BioWare's ongoing desire to be more independent from the publisher it has become most associated with, as well as some acrimony between the companies because BioWare is suing Interplay for selling the European publishing rights for BioWare's games without BioWare's consents.

...and as noted elsewhere, companies tend to sue each other with alarming regularity, which of course makes most such suits, well, unalarming.

Every time I hear about the software company Titus I think about that TV show though. Creepy.

Game developers so rarely sue game publishers that it is a noteworthy event.
