I want to bring GamersClick back, but I know I have to rework some stuff so that I'm happy with the site. If you remember it, what do you think we should remove? What should we add? Even if you don't remember it, what would you deem absolutely necessary for a gaming site? Any useful response will be appreciated.

What is a gaming site, really, other than news & reviews? Just put in what you like, if people like the stuff you do, they'll check it out.

Avoid doing exactly the same thing everyone else does, ie news & reviews. I can get those elsewhere.. everywhere elsewhere. You need something that makes it unique. A slant all your own. Seems like you had that. I liked the interviews; I wasn't so hot on the columns. They didn't seem particularly insightful or well-written (sorry!). Columns=good, but I just didn't have a good feel for the ones on GC.

I guess this wasn't much help. I thought I had an idea but I lost it in here somewhere.

Well, for awhile, it was being updated daily. It did trail off there toward the end...

Really, I think you had a pretty good thing going -- and I don't just say that because I was writing for you.

But, ultimately, as you said yourself, you've got to find what you're happy with.

I like opinions. Real opinions, not the "ThiS gAme SuX A$$! pr0n RoOlz!" kind, either. Trouble is, that's what seems to happen to most fanboi pages.

It also helps if the people running the board have a clear idea of what will fly and what won't, and have a unified approach to doing things. QT3 is a good example of this on both counts. After the brain-fusion and time in the vats, Mark and Tom are of a sufficient single-minded gestalt mentality that their writing on the board is basically ubiquitous. Uh, funny, too.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. I'm thinking that I'll probably go to a M-F schedule... or do you guys think it would be better to do a, say, Wednesday-Sunday one? A lot of major sites don't update on weekends.

I'm still trying to find that slant :) Pornstar interviews will probably still be around--not too sure on that one, though. They got enough positive feedback that I'd like to see them back (hell, even some PR guys from certain publishers showed their 'fanboyism' of porn). The columns we had weren't overly good, I agree. I usually ended up writing Tom Raider in about half an hour at 4:30am. I usually wasn't happy with the result, but I was so caught up in the need to get an article up everyday.

First I need to find a good host, then find some more good writers (a few of the guys we had--my co-owner included--weren't very good). I'm also thinking of just sticking with PC stuff, and maybe expanding to consoles once interest picks up a bit. I dunno... I'm waiting on a possible job with a certain developer before I make any major decisions... if I get the job there, my journalistic integrity would no doubt be in question... so I'd either have to completely drop the site or work in some sort of administrative position... who knows.

I do appreciate all the comments though, guys. I respect the opinions of the frequenters of this board moreso than those of people on most forums.

Here's a rule of thumb: if a PR person likes it, you probably shouldn't put it on your website. ;0

Actually, I was joking about regular updates, since this site isn't updated by any schedule.

You might want to focus on once a week updates if you can actually produce 3-4 articles. In some ways, that would be kind of neat knowing that if I visit Gamersclick once a week I'll see those 3-4 new articles. It will probably hurt you traffic-wise, but if you're not making money anyway, what's the difference?

That's really not a bad idea.

If that could be coupled with (more or less) daily news updates -- like they do here, just letting us know what's up in the industry -- people would feel like there might be something worth visiting for every day, and there would certainly be one day a week that several people would visit.

It would really be nice if GC had the kind of people regularly visiting and posting to the message board that this site has, too. The boards over there were always so dead...Wish there were something that could be done about that.

Heh, it's funny you mention that once-a-week update schedule. When GC was still HGames.com, we had it as a weekly webzine, where we'd publish about 5 articles every Friday. I liked the idea, but we always ended up having a horrific Thursday where all I did was write and edit articles. But who knows... I'll look into the merits of going back to such a system.

I was going to recommend against the Porn Star interviews actually. Nevermind.

Overall I liked the site, but I may be biased a bit having written some of the content. Were the site to reappear, I would personally like to see a bit more about gaming trends, rather than buying into the hype over individual games. I think it might be one way to distunguish it from the horde of other sites out there.
