I am a game writer.

In a world that seems to be rapidly spinning out of control, I hold up my hand to steady it. My small hand. My inconsequential hand. For me, it is enough that I try. I write about games for a living. I write, in essence, about fun. About play. These may be of little importance against the stark and horrific background of a world ravaged by hatred and fear, but to me they are important. In a world where play and fun can still be embraced is world that still nurtures the hope and dreams of children. Children of any age. I write about entertaining possibilities and challenges that spring not from hate or anger, but from creativity and imagination. In my writings I offer a few words of reflection and opinion and, perhaps, a smile or two to take the reader away from the stresses and sorrows of the world--if only for a few moments. I am not the cure for what ails the world but I am proud in the fact that I do not contribute to those ailments. I am proud that I live in a society that can still play games and can still find fun in ways that do not depend on the sufferings of others. I may not cure cancer. I may not save anyones life. I may not do anything worth remembering in my lifetime. Despite the relative unimportance of what I do, I am ennobled by the intention. Theyre only games, one could say, but in the spirit of play resides the hope of a better world. From the spirit of that play comes enough hands to steady the world.

Well said. And I expect that around here, that will be well received.

I think games are a much-needed release for a lot of people, and anyone who thinks that they are inconsequential in daily life...well, they're just plain wrong.

Here's to our hobby. [Raises glass.]

Well said, Bill.

As far as release goes, though... This cured my addiction to the IL-2 demo. Just can't stomach flight sims right now. :-(

I think you are right! Perspective is very good. What you do is silly and meaningless compared to all the big things happening this week. It is good that you have stopped on the page.
