Anybody here play it? I just got the recent CGS mag and it had the IW2 demo. Hot damn this games seems like a beefier version of Freespace 2. The feeling of the space combat is awesome! The graphics superb, the sound superb... so, is the full version any good? im sure somebody here played the uk version... It looks like Elite for the new millenium!

etc

I was playing it before GT3 rolled around and will get back to it one of these days. It is gorgeous and expansive. The weapons are very nice and the physics based flight works pretty well (I like the original I-War as well). The only issue I started to run across is the lack of an in mission save since the distances you have to travel, while realistic, can make it real bastard when you have to replay mid game missions. You will feel like space is vast with this game. If you like space sims I would say go for it but if you are looking for something quick this isn't it.

Work has been seriously cutting into my gaming time lately, but I-War 2 has been getting most of my available attention (especially while I wait for the Arcanum patch.) I'm still in the preliminaries, but my hunch is that this is going to be the game I wanted Privateer 2 to be.

(Ugh... Privateer 2. Excuse me while I wash the bad taste out of my mouth. <gargle gargle gargle> Ptui! Better.)

Right now I'm in the process of, um, acquiring goods to trade. Yeah... that's it. Acquiring goods. ;-)

The graphics in the demo are stupendous! awe inspiring! beeyootiful!

anyway, im more interested in the open ended aspect of it. It looks to be a game you can come back to every once in awhile.. though i read a few comments on it and people say it is generally "too hard". and the Europeans replied that us Americans were too dumb to play such a great game... dem snotty bastards!

etc

It is sort of open but not Elite open. You can go pirate ... err ... aquire goods any time you want but beyond that you don't really seem to be able to pick up side quests or haul cargo around to trade. You can fly anywhere but there is little interaction once you get there. The missions that advance the storyline are neat and it looks awesome I just don't want people to think they can ignore the storyline and do what they want (beyond pirating that is).

That's a good synopsis, Rob. You do have some freedom in the missions you choose though. I wonder if Freelancer will offer something more substantial to do in the "universe". I'm skeptical, but hopeful.

...and still bitter about the loss of Privateer Online (and Wing Commander Online before that).
