Just thought I'd spotlight the return of one of my favorite bits of Internet column-writing here. Easterbrook's TMQ at Slate:

Oh, Packers this year, all the way.

No way! Rams in seven, with Warner hitting a HR to clinch the series!

Actually, I'm feeling good about the Rams. I think their defense is going to be ok. The big worry is Warner and concussions.

Ravens or the Bucs. Actually, New England is looking pretty good right now, too.

Sorry, fellas, the Raiders are going all the way this year.

As are my Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Nebraska? Didn't look too good against...who was that? TCU?

Alan, the Cowboys? Maybe if Jerry Jones buys off the replacement referees. They're looking like a 4-12 team to me otherwise.

The Cowboys are hurting right now. 6-10 or 7-9 would be a good year.

Don't put down TCU. They have been a good team the last couple of years. Their former coach is now at Alabama to rebuild that program.

Go Hogs Go! (University of Arkansas, not my alma mater, but my favorite college team in any sport)

Hey Bill Abner and I both know the Cleveland Browns are going to take everybody by surprise this year..... by winning 5 or 6 games.

Oh I'm not saying the Cowboys are gonna go all the way, I'm just singing my support as a fan :)

Our offense didn't look too good, but our defense (even if counting TCU's one play that resulted in a score) played an excellent game. Plus, TCU had one of the highest-ranked defenses in the country last year. Their not the whipping boy everyone expected.

And it wasn't just us (and yes, I can say "us" because I'm an alumni of the University of Nebraska) but all of the teams last weekend had problems. Look at Oklahoma--they put up 31 points in the first quarter and then had to hold on for dear life against a North Carolina team that had, what, five turnovers? And Georgia Tech dropped out of the top ten because they barely got past fiesty Syracuse.

It's going to be a good year in college football.

As for the NFL, I truly hope the Browns are good this year, but I doubt they will be.

I'm just rooting for the Rams offense. Dominos the last two years has had a St. Louis promotion where on Mondays they knock a dollar off a pizza for every TD the Rams scored. The had some games where the pizzas were $6-7 dollars off! One week you could get a cheese pizza for $1.49 or something like that.

You can't even get through to them on the phone. You have to go there and stand in line to place your order they're so busy. Kinda fun, though, because everyone's talking football in line.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Tom Ohle on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 - 01:35 pm:

Now if only Dominos had good pizza.

They'll be improved on defense, but whether that shows up in more wins is problematic. They still lack a cohesive offensive line and impact skill players for Couch to work with. Thanks to being in the same division as the Bengals, however, they won't finish last.

$1.49 pizza = good pizza

That is a philosophy carried over from my college days where the local pizza places were always running some sort of special.

I would have agreed with that until I turned about 25 and my digestive system up and died on me. I now pay as much as I can for pizza. The higher quality the better.

That the $1.49 probably goes to anti-abortion groups, since it's Dominos, is either a Good Thing or a Bad Thing, depending on how you look at it.

Da Eagles, baby! Both offense and defense are looking primed. And for those RAMS fans here on the board-- might as well pencil in an "L" for your opener against the Birds. ;-)

Heh -- yeah, they scare me a bit. McNabb's hard to tackle. I'm also worried about that turf in Philly. I'd almost take a loss if it would mean no serious injuries.

How has Deuce Staley looked in preseason?

Decent chance the Rams and Eagles will play twice this season, I'd guess.

For me pizza's like sex. There's good and bad, but the bad is never that bad. It's crust, sauce, cheese, and a topping. Pretty hard to screw up.

White Castles are another story. I pay the next day if I eat those now.

Yes, but there are places that *do* manage to screw it up, particularly the crust.

Go, uh... Seahawks? *snicker* Most Seattle residents ignore the Seahawks. I mean, why bother when you've got the Mariners and Sonics?

Yeah but you've got Holmgren, there are few better coaches out there. And now you've got Hasselbeck, who I think will one day be a star.

Seahawks have a better chance than the Cowboys this year I'd wager.

My grandmother has a better chance of making the playoffs than the Cowboys. And I don't even have a grandmother anymore.

Raph, Mark and I are die-hard Ram fans...me from the days even before Anaheim.

You'll be pleased to hear, however, that early last season when nobody liked the Eagles, I picked them to do well, and they did. I have heard many good things about Coach Reid, and you have to like how competitive they played even with the injuries they had last year.

That said, if the Rams lose on opening day, I will blame the crappy turf! :)

Hey, Sports Illustrated picked the Rams to win it all this year. They have Marshall Faulk on the cover and proclaim him the best player in the game. He is a future hall of fame running back that I think compares well with the all time greats.

Are you kidding? That turf is da bomb! The psychological effect it creates on opposing teams is worth a dozen Pro-bowlers. Seriously, as banged up as Faulk can get, I bet he's dreading playing there.

The Jets and Eagles played on the new upgraded NexTurf thursday nite, and liked it. So it shouldn't be a problem for the game. Either way, I hope both Faulk and Staley break 100 yards rushing while scoring a few TDs. I have both RBs on my ESPN fantasy team.

Yah, but some people believe that any team making the SI cover gets jinxed :)
