I'm still downloading all the AOL required crap (AIM, WinAMP, Real Player 8). It seems a shame it doesn't support ICQ, being as AOL owns ICQ.

I found the incredibly lengthy legal disclaimer/agreement both scary and amusing. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen "death" in a computer game disclaimer before but maybe I'm wrong. :)

As a single schmuck who doesn't use his phone much I think I could even get away with turning off the phone message "this is just a call about Majestic" warnings, and turning up the immersion, and then maybe you'll read about me on Dateline NBC soon. :)

Yeah, I find this aspect of the game to be a bit annoying. I don't like to use instant messaging stuff anyway. Email's instant enough for me.

How effectively can you play it without involving the telephone? I really don't want phone calls, but IM and Email are ok in my book.

I dunno, got one call today. Trying to figure out using the game interface/IM who's real and who's not...

Never really had any long IM conversations though, nothing like the Joystick101 guys.

According to Neil Young at E3, all you really need is web access, email, and AIM. You can set the game to ever call you. I think you get .wavs of the phonecalls as downloads in that case, or something.

Maybe its just me, but I was thinking that the only thing about this game that was really immersive was the telephones calls. It is the only place (well, I guess the faxes count) where the game really steps out of its computer element and into "real" life.

One real bummer is EA.com can't check to see whether your username has already been taken in AIM (a problem for those of us who aren't already on AIM or AOL). Since you're EA username serves as your Majestic name and has to match your AIM name, imagine my dismay when I had everything ready only to find out my EA.com username wasn't available to me when registering for AIM.

Confused? :) Well, anyway, I need to cancel my EA.Com and Majestic trial accounts and try to set up new ones matching my goofball AIM name (since, as with AOL, it's all but impossible to get the username you'd like because every flake on the planet has already thought of the same names).

And I'm lazy, so I've decided the hell with the whole thing. :)

Computers aren't real life? Weird, my whole miserable life is tied up in them nowadays. ;-)

The whole EA.com account/IM was weird, cause i thought I had the same problem.. got a new IM account and all.. then Majestic tells me the account name needs to be the same. I put in "avdunkin" for IM and it works fine. Weird.

And the game is weird, as well. I did manage to find the new site and met some allies who I think are, well, allies evidently. You can get into some pretty weird conversations with AI.. some can be quite funny :)
