So, I was looking at the release list over at CGOnline, (I look like an ad, don't I?) and I see that Caesar IV is set to release in December. I've heard absolutely zero about this game, but it really interests me. Any of you executive-types over at CGM (or anyone else) have any info you can share? Is this just something speculated, or just tightly under wraps?

Okay, I refuse to believe that none of you no anything...
Mayer? Bauman? What's the scoop?
By Dave Long on Thursday, July 19, 2001 - 01:20 am:
There's absolutely nothing on Impressions website about it. I doubt this thing exists.
Impressions is hinting at a continuation of the Lords series. Specifically something in the fantasy line.

Yeah, I went there first, too. I wondered if there was anything to it. I hope so. I hope that it's just a top-secret project. I love the Caesar series...
The Lords series was good, too, though. I wouldn't mind seeing another of those.

I can't remember :=). I do believe they said it's a-comin' but beyond that I don't know. I'll see what I can find out.

Thanks, Bob. 'Preciate it!
By Robert Mayer on Friday, July 20, 2001 - 09:53 am:
Well, it's unannounced, and officially doesn't exist. I suspect it's coming out, but we really have no info. I've taken it off our releases schedule until I can find out more.

Caesar 4? Man, I'd be careful if I were Impressions. How many times can they go to the well?
I'd like to see them rethink Lords of Magic and try to do another one.

Since they've done Caesar, Pharaoh and Zeus, I've been waiting for them to apply the engine to modern times. Why not just go for the gusto against SimCity?
I never played Lords of Magic after the botched release. Is Lords SE worth the time? I saw it floating around for $10 recently.

"Since they've done Caesar, Pharaoh and Zeus"...
Nah, they havent done Mayans yet.
I haven't played LoM, but Shadus said he had a lot of fun with it. (Shadus is sorta my Trevor, but he really DOES exist.) He said once he figured out a few cheese tactics that let him breeze through it, the appeal was gone but it was pretty fun up to that point.
By Jason Lutes on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - 02:23 am:
Whether or not you'd like LoM SE is a tough call -- I desperately wanted to like it and gave it plenty of opportunity, but in the end I found it too riddled with problems. It had some nice ideas (the 3D terrain and battle zoom-in were neat), but the game setup is inflexible (always eight sides, no random map generator), the combat engine is annoying as hell, the graphics are some of the muddiest ever, and the art direction is horrible. Oh, and I seem to remember the computer turns taking *forever*, but that was back on a P200.
I would, however, love for Impressions to put out another game in the same vein, if they can learn from LoM's failings and the successful aspects of other, similar games.
For $10, I would say get it if you're a fan of fantasy-strategy games, but avoid it if you're just looking for good gameplay.
By Dave Long on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - 10:58 am:
Thanks Jason... I really enjoy fantasy-strat games. Kohan, Fantasy General and of course MOM are high on my list of favorites. For $10, I'm probably going to check it out soon.
