"Rambling"?!?!? Who's rambling?!? That's a great article. The exchange between the in-house minor deity (or whatever) and a guy who's been sicking his dragon on hapless newbies is priceless:

"GAUDEMUS: WTF.
GM QUINNLY: Let's discuss your releasing dragons to kill other players.
GAUDEMUS: That's illegal.
GM QUINNLY: Quite.
GAUDEMUS: I released it because I don't want it. It was a crappy dragon.
GM QUINNLY: I am releasing you on this warning."

That's got to be one of the most rambling articles I ever read.

Funny and amusing at times and "why the heck did she even include that" at others.

It's nice to have an "outsider"'s perspective on this narrow world once in a while. I don't think an inside could have looked at this with such an amused eye.

I know the gaming world is known for its great writing and editing, so I guess I'm not surprised that The New Yorker is accused of being "rambling" here ...

Er, "rambling" doesn't mean the writing is bad, just a bit unfocused. I enjoyed the article quite a bit, but it did ramble all over the map.

The only reason why I even referred to it that way was because I had trouble trying to categorize it. Is it about virtual economies? Is it about virtual socities? Is it about Richard Garriott and his exotic vactions and castle? Is it about how much money these games can make?

And yes, I like the mainstream perspective on gaming, which is why I dutifully look for mainstream articles about gaming post links to them on the front page.

"Rambling" certainly implies poor editing. But I'm ready to move on.

The amazing thing is that there are people out there taking this so seriously. It's hilarious. "Crappy dragon" is just so funny. I thought I was geeky.

I have to admit, I would have liked to witness the whole dragon incident. That kind of stuff cracks me up.

I can't imagine what it might sound like to someone on the outside of the gaming world.

Mark, The Washington Post had a big hairy feature on the Xbox though I'm sure it had no idea what it was talking about.

They had a few other reports from E3 if ye curious.
