Found a nice Ghost Recon news site, Ghostrecon.net, and on top of some impressions from the E3 visiting gamer scribes here, I'm fairly pumped. The site has some movies of the game in operation but I still can't find a screenshot anywhere.

Here's the official poop description from UbiSoft:

Quote:

War has begun on Russian soil and threatens to encompass the globe. Lead an elite infantry team through a series of military missions around the world, ranging from covert actions to search-and-rescue operations, to all-out firefights in this first-person squad-based
action game.

I don't pretend to understand gaming PR but it seems curious there's been no mention of Ghost anywhere at Red Storm's site. It's like the game is a ... ghost or something.

I never much cared for R6 games in single player, and Ghost sounds like it'll be more to my liking in that way.

I'm curious if it will use crosshair for pointing the way SWAT 3 does (where if you want AI buddies to open a door, you point at the door and give the command).

It is, as Bob Mayer pointed out in the E3 thread, tentatively scheduled for Dec. 2001. I look forward to taking on tanks about then...

Ah, ghostrecon.net's by the guys behind Pie's Tactics I think (a popular Rogue Spear/R6 fan site).

The game impressed me at E3. I dunno, I'm a sucker for military themed shooters, though goodness knows Spec Ops was one that I didn't like. Ghost Recon seems more accessible than the Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear stuff--no planning, straight-up military missions (kill stuff, blow stuff up) and what looks at this stage to be some pretty decent AI. The game is in Ubi Soft's electronic E3 press kit, btw.

I'm hangin' out at Ghost Recon.net's forums. People are actually pretty well behaved there, imagine! :)

I've read some interviews and it looks like there will be some bits of stealth and actual recon (just a little), so it's not necessarily Duke Nukem. :) I'm keen on the addition of different specialty classes (ala, say, Team Fortress) and skills points in the single player campaign. I guess R6/RS had different classes, but I didn't pay much attention.

Ah, in keeping with my new "gets everything wrong" reputation, Pie's Tactics has nothing to do with Ghostrecon.net apparently. And they've linked here, so I thought I'd correct myself. Although I don't think anyone here much is paying attention. :)

Geo, what is it you do for a living? Write for a newspaper? Which one? The Weekly World News. :)

Sorry, couldn't resist a little jab.

Oh, people are definitely paying attention. :=p

Yah, http://www.ghostrecon.net is a good site -- to bad I don't have anything to do with it.

Pie from Pie's Tactics (who doesn't have an account...hmmm).

Mark,

Geo is actually the escaped alien "Bat Baby" often featured on the cover of WWN. They have an amazingly fast lifecycle, reaching adulthood in under a year, and at this point he's elderly and going senile.

Hey, everybody, it's Pie!

Hi, Pie. I'm honored that you'd drop in. We do a lot of Rogue Spear at the LAN party I have at my house and I'm constantly dropping by your site to get maps, mods, the skinny on which weapons are best, etc. I love your site. Keep up the good work.

I've heard a lot of good stuff on Rainbow Six: Ghost Recon. I am a big fan of Swat games like Swat 3 and Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. From the looks of it, I think Ghost Recon is leaning more towards the Delta Force: Land Warrior style!

Ghostrecon.net is brought to you by the same guys that bring you Aggression (www.agr-s.com) and run the newsgroup alt.games.rainbow-six. I hope this clears up any questions of who put the site up and we look forward to serving all your Ghost Recon needs.

I don't write for WEekly World News. I write for The Onion!

Next week:
* Pie's Tactics revealed as true creator of Blue's News, Fatbabies and Daily Radar!

Stay tuned for more factual errors!

But seriously, thanks for clearing it up. I think I just saw some news link back to Pie's for something and assumed, wrongly, they were affiliated sites. :)
