Has anyone else tried this thing yet?

I don't know about any of you, but I don't think that I've ever encountered a demo that did such a horrible job of making me want to buy a game as this one. I think the game has promise, but not including a piloting tutorial on a game that has weird flight mechanics such as this is a HUGE mistake. I'm still trying to figure out how to fly the ships. Getting behind an enemy and shooting him down has only been accomplished by dumb luck so far. I'm sure it will just take some getting used to, but a little help from the demo would have been nice.

No, you're right-- it's ass.

Yeah, I played the demo some while ago when it was all in Russian. I was kinda like "What?" The feel is totally wrong. Great idea, doing a far-future flight sim... I think somewhere along the way somebody said "lets use the MOUSE as the primary controller, because Gordon Berg said that joysticks kill games!"

Well, mice killed this one.

I've spent a little more time with this demo. After figuring out how to disable the mouse compeletely, things got a little better. I've also found that using the keyboard entirely for control instead of my CH F-16 Combatstick and Pro Throttle combo works a lot better. It boggles me that they have all those different keys for flying the ship, but the fire weapon function is mapped to the mouse and joystick by default and not to the keyboard.

I'm getting better at flying the ships. It helps to realize that they rely totally on propulsive and not aerodynamic lift. (There's the aerospace engineering student coming out of me...) Sadly, I've found flying past the floating external cameras much more entertaining than actually playing the game.
