Which makes y'all cringe more, the moronic "Stephen" of Dell fame ("DUDE, YOU'RE GETTING A DELL!") or the new Gateway/Windows XP ads wherein Ted Waitt keeps ducking away for romantic interludes with a cow?

I swear, that Dell ad which portrays Stephen convincing some kid's mother to buy a Dell plays like some sort of update on "The Graduate." The youngish mother's reactions to Stephen's lusty advances reeks of sexual tension! But can that tension rival Ted Waitt's covert quickies with his talking Bovine paramour? (A mysterious transexual cow with a male voice?)

AAAAUUUUGGHHH! Me mind gonna 'splode now.

Yeah, I build my computers, and those of most of my friends, myself, so I could care less about either company. I actually kinda liked Dell's ads for awhile, and the way that kid says "Dude, you're getting a Dell!" cracks me up, even as it annoys me.

For desktops, I suppose I'd have no problem building one from a bare bones config. But for laptops...I'd probably consider Dell.

As for ads...I miss those goofy theme ads Gateway had a decade ago.

Hands down the most annoying ads are those stupid "Gatway" cow ads. I hate it when CEO's suddenly believe they are television stars.

Of course this might just be the residual bitterness of a Gateway computer owner who wanted to upgrade the graphics on his machine only to have that machine laugh at him. I bought a Gateway before I played computer games, and before I knew anything about upgrading a machine. I think we should hurry up and invent time-travel for just this kind of conundrum.

I actually like the Dell ads. I went around saying "Dude, you're gettin' a Dell!" for awhile. Then my wife locked me out of the house. I've since moved on to the Fed-Ex commercials.

"She wore white?"
"She put her past behind her...but you're missing the point of the story."

I have had far more ease playing games on my Dell laptop than I have on my Gateway desktop. Part of this is due to the fact that the laptop is two-years younger, but I think it's also just a better product. I always thought you weren't supposed to be able to play much on a laptop. Even the games the Gateway used to handle, like Half-Life, just stop working after awhile. It's frustrating. Dell has also been super-cool about servicing the laptop when it has needed it (it has this ridiculous problem with one diagonal set of keys that every so often will just stop working).

Next time I'm building my own machine and to hell with both of them.

I think the Gateway CEO knows that gateway only has a year or so left in it, so he is blowing the last of their money on getting his ugly face some TV time. That way there will be something to show his grandkids.

Oh man, I love those Fed Ex ads.

The Dell commercials started out annoying (the original one with Stephen begging his Dad for a Dell for Christmas because $900 for a system without a monitor is a good deal!), but then they got cute.

The Gateway commercials made something clear, finally; Gateway is run by a farm animal. That went along way to explaining why the two Gateways I have had experience with were piles of cow pies. Never again..never again

For a couple years now I've been wondering when somebody was going to pick up Steve Carrell. Fed Ex did. Smart, he's been the funniest damn thing on the Daily Show for a couple years now.

The Dell campaign is annoying, but effective. They really know how to nail the demographic(s) they want. Teens -and- their parents. Also middle aged women who get hot when cool teens help them out... I think that was one of the goals actually.

I don't know what Gateway is doing. The cow's voice is The Brain, from Pinky & The..., btw/FWIW, but that CEO needs to cut that stupid ponytail.

I'd avoid both companies. I find the Dell add more annoying.
