Any writers here have a recommendation on an indexing program? I know Word has an indexing feature, but there are more powerful third-party alternatives. I just don't know what they are.

Thanks!

What word processor application are you using? I can think of a good one for indexing in FrameMaker, but it's not going to help if you're working in Word.

Microsoft's IIS web server, starting with Win2k or later, includes something called indexing services. This will index anything text-based, and it has plugins that decode native binar formats (word, pdf, etc). All the MS Office plugins are preinstalled.

It's very easy to use-- just check some of the documentation either built into IIS, or online.

Thanks, guys! It's for a faculty member here at the law school, so I'm sure he'll be using word. We'll check out the IIS web server for him.
