We really were impressed with GameBasement Radio and we're not just saying that because Jeff "Wumpus" Atwood paid us ten bucks! And we really must insist that you go listen to Lowdee Huh from the Neverhood soundtrack. Tom Waits ain't got nothing on Neverhood's Daniel Amos.

Hey, I just modelled it after Napster.

Give away other people's copyrighted works for free, then stand back and wait for the stampede of eager users! All the profit of running a legitimate business, without the tedious effort and cost of creating so-called 'product'. Watch your stock and personal fortune rise to meteoric heights!

Seems like a sound business model to me, anyway. Or maybe I just picked a bad day to quit mainlining heroin.

I've just been informed that the Neverhood soundtrack is by Terry S. Taylor and not Daniel Amos. I'm told the loyal Neverhood fans will be at my house in minutes to break down the door and beat me senseless. I'll return to the forums after I've recovered consciousness.

While I'm waiting on the Neverhood fans to arrive, I've just been informed that Daniel Amos is the name of Terry S. Taylor's band, so I hope to persuade the Neverhood fans that I was, techically, correct.

"And by the way, which one's Pink?"

Thanks for the tip on this, guys.

Right now I'm looking for a rip of the Iron Helix song...my original Spectrum Holobyte CD died on me, but I remember that song...it was a kind of hard industrial piece but it had some harmony to it. There's a remade version on one of the MP3 sites, but they mixed it differently so it's more like a dance or rap tune and I still prefer the original.

Iron Helix? Geez, that's an old one. As I remember it, that was a game that no one really bought but got through some OEM deal. I think I got mine with my first CD drive.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Bernie Dy on Monday, January 8, 2001 - 01:38 pm:

Yeah, Iron Helix was memorable for being among that early wave of CD-based multimedia titles, but as a game was average. Another oldie I'd like the music to is Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist.

Wumpus - I'm with you on Rocket Jockey! No one seemed to like it, but it had me laughing. Did you ever see the part where your rider gets hit by those tentacle whips and his clothes get ripped off?

Okay, I put up bids on both Iron Helix and Freddy Pharkas on eBay. I'll try to get those up ASAP. Thanks for the feedback, guys!

As the commando in C&C would say-- "keep 'em comin!"

Nothing better than the System Shock remixes at http://www.ttlg.com

Hell, nothing better than System Shock, period, and that includes most sex.

this is no joke! i was out with a few friends "clubbing" (whcich i dont do much of) and guess what i heard on one dance song? i heard a sample of Shodan's "pathetic little human" was intercut with some electronica!!! i said to my friends, "hey i played that game!"

etc

I'm not a huge fan of remixes, since they tend to take away from the game, IMO.

The only exception to that rule is really old games which need a remix to sound even remotely interesting. For example, the M.U.L.E. remix that is in the playlist.

There are a number of original System Shock songs in the playlist.

Wow and here I was thinking that I was the only one who liked the music featured in games. Some of these really take me back. That and the Star Control 2 stuff reminds me just how good the Gravis Ultrasound realy was.

I've had a bad having the Star Control 2 stuff playing in the background while I browse. Man, it makes me want to find an old copy of that game.

Umm, that should be "I'm having a ball" and not "I'm having a bad". I get all quivery and can't type straight when I think of Star Control 2. I blame the Syreen.

Hey. I got Iron Helix, but I can only find one or two pieces of music on the entire CD-- and short ones at that. Luckily they are .WAV files, so easy to convert, but am I missing something here?

Is there supposed to be more than this?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Bernie Dy on Thursday, January 18, 2001 - 11:58 am:

The Iron Helix CD I had had one CD track - it was basically the main song...it's played either in the beginning/title screen part of the game or at the very end. They may have repackaged the game and or taken music out...I know that happened when 3DO repackaged HOMMII as part of the Millennium Edition - some of the really nice opera tracks were lost.

Brilliant. Now I never have to buy another game again! HaHa.
My band used to jam on the doom shareware level 1 tune. For a fun time play warcraft2 with Yes' Relayer in your stereo. Nowdays the Homeworld audio cd is my fave when writing code at work.

Daniel Amos... Now there's a band that brings back memories. During my militant "Born Again" phase in So Cal. during the late 80's, they were huge among the Christian new-wave bands. I think I still have one of their albums on vinyl somewhere.

Hey wumpus, nice collection! Lately, I've been listening to the Myth, Quest for Glory, and Icewind Dale soundtracks.

Does anyone else here put games into a CD player just to check for audio tracks?

- Alan

Ah, Quest for Glory...That takes me back!

Those were really good games! That's a collection that I'm very happy to have. It really takes a long time for them to get old!

Yep. Love the Warcraft II stuff, and also the HOMMII soundtrack. Kinda sucks that not all games put their music in regular CD readable tracks anymore...dammit, I paid for it, let me listen to it.

Agreed - Warcraft II has some of the best music. The first Red Alert had some pretty kickin' stuff, too. RA2 isn't bad, but IMHO doesn't compare to the first, musically.

also, the new music for Wizardry 8 souunds pretty cool. . .

I liked Icewind Dale alot, my fave from last year. also Total Annihilation had some John williams Star Warsish feel to it. . .

now some game soundtracks i can't stand were Starcrafts. . . aye using 80's guitar rock for a game annoys me. . . (a trademark for jet sims for some reason). for that matter, any Janes Jet fighting sim has terrible guitar rock all the time. . . i can't understand it. WW2 fighters had cool swing music and EAW was cool too, but then you get USAF, IAF and F-15 with all this annoying cock rock!

anyway, i ramble

btw, like your site wumpus, some of the old midi music i bnever heard in awhile is nice.

etc

wow you have Sea Dogs on the play list. . . damn that music from Sea Dogs is real good, especially the sailing sequences music, just plain ole good.

just looking at the list shows how REAL good some game music is. . . even better than alot of movie and tv music i hear imo.

etc

sorta OT, i had a coworker borrow outlaws and when he started it up one day at work the music was blasted, ppl around the office were saying, "who the hells watching a fistfull of dollars on there pc?"

was a cool gaming/work moment.

and he had to turn down the sound, lest we get written up! (game playing at work was eventually banned. .. oh well cant win em all.)

also, another ramble. . . listening to the u9 music makes me want to play that game again.

etc

Yeah, I thought that music was pretty good. Very nicely fitted to the game. Just a shame the game went over so poorly with the public. I enjoyed it, but I think I'm the only one...
