"Compare this to Activision which canned the only other interesting looking Trek game in development, that Borg title being made by Cyberlore."

Huh, does this mean that y'all know something about Bridge Commander that the rest of us dont?

Not sure what the Qt3-meisters know about Bridge Commander. Have personally heard some (probably unrepeatable on a public forum) interesting rumors, from those in the know, about why Assimilator was cancelled.

Oh, and Fatbabies has posted an interesting rumor about Totally Games today...
Here it is.

Oops. Yeah, Bridge Commander looks interesting. I can't say I'm personally all that interested, but it is different.

"Good Trek games."

Isn''t that kind of like a really good lite beer? Always pursued, yet never found?

The problem as I see it, for every good Trek game (e.g. Elite Force, SFC1) there are three mediocre ones.

And don't forget the eight truly awful ones.

What *are* the Eight Truly Awful Ones?

Star Trek New Worlds
Star Trek Away Team
Star Trek Hidden Evil
Star Trek Klingon Academy
Star Trek Klingon Honor Guard
Star Trek Dominion Wars
Star Trek Borg
Star Trek Generations

That's off the top of my head.

Heh, don't forget Starfleet Academy, which was even worse than Klingon Academy (which I don't think was terrible). What about Star Trek Pinball? Remember that crazy game?

That reminds me. Do any of you know what really happened to The Secret of Vulcan Fury? It had such promise, and I was really looking forward to it. From a simple gamer's perspective, it looked like it was sailing along and suddenly had the plug pulled.

Interplay cancelled Vulcan Fury, I think just as a cost-cutting measure.

"Interplay cancelled Vulcan Fury"

Was that the adventure game? I remember seeing that at E3 a couple times and it was hilarious...the characters looked good, but the eyeball graphics weren't quite done, so the characters all looked at you with these creepy robot stares. I said something about it to the PR folks with us at the time and all they could do was quietly mutter, "Uh yeah...the eyes need work."

Yeah, it was an adventure game with voice work done by the original cast and a story by D.C. Fontana, I think.

Sadly, DeForest Kelly wasn't involved.
It's notable that if he had been, it would have been the last thing he ever did. Apparently the script was done and fully voiced otherwise, and I was originally told that it was merely "shelved" for the time being. If it is scripted and voiced, it could come back with state-of-the-art graphics of course. This is assuming the reasons for shelving it at the time were graphics or adventure genre related. Not that the script really stunk or something like that...

Are you sure, Andrew? I thought he always was supposed to be, and I thought that you once mentioned that it was his last, hidden work? Did you find out otherwise?

Yeah, I wrote a Trek-themed column about a year ago where I detailed the Vulcan Fury story as I understood it and urged Interplay to dust it off. I mentioned DeForest's death as a good reason to do so and I got an email from Interplay telling me he was too ill to be involved.

If you like I can dig up that column, and the retraction, for you. It's in the Daily Radar archives (which I believe are still online). If not it's somewhere in my C: drive.
