I have not seen a single review on this title yet. Were any review copies sent out ?

Not yet.

We called Eidos to get our review copies of the game and were told that they don't have any in yet, so my show host and I took a short trip to the software store and pick up a couple because we were truly interested in how this puppy turned out.
I'm only about 5 hours in but I'm quite surprised. It's simple, fun, engaging, and rather humorous. A console style RPG on the PC but without much of the things that make console RPGs to tedious. No random battle, fewer battle in general, a choice to use save point or a save anywhere scheme, etc.
Graphics are dated, but the animation and lip-synch is pretty good. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Can I borrow your sock?

Sure, but only if you promise not to chew on it.

I'm just now getting around to playing it after Diablo 2 burnout, and the graphics, excepting the oddly-stylized-to-get-around-the-Q2-engine character models, are absolutely gorgeous. There's actual B-grade cinematography in the intro, too, which is a novelty to me in computer gaming. The freeze frame of Boots being thrown out of the window is really cool.

Anachronox is a lot of fun so far. Funny, too. Only 6 hours or so into it so far. Combat is not the most refined part of the game.

It took me about 40 hours to beat, but Anachronox was great. Some of the environments were absolutely beautiful, esp. given that it uses a Quake 2 engine.
Great humour, storyline and beyond a few little glitches, a rock-solid game.

Jeff Green's latest Greenspeak column is about this game. It's in the CGW with the Worlds of Warcraft game on the cover.

I've almost finished it, and it's one of the better games I've ever played. The writing is almost PS:T quality. The boring, too-easy combat should have been completely eliminated in favor of more puzzles and adventure-gaming type things, though.
The camerawork is what I'm most impressed with. I never tired of silly things like watching the characters ride elevators, as every one of them had an interesting pan across the game world. Game narrative, thy friend is a director.
