As much as I liked Undying, there is so much more that can be done with the survival horror genre. I think the best would be to put it in the guise of Thief/SS2 gameplay. .. this is one of my most desired games!

Mostly, Undying is a graphically enhanced version of Blood to me. . . though of course Undying has much better graphics. also wheel of time has a similar feel to Undying (another Unreal Engine game), and parts of it have some freaky atmosphere in it.

anyhow, sooner or later they will have to make a survival horror game with the feel of SS2/Thief.
Undying was close, but not close enough.

etc

A Thief-like horror game would be kind of neat. I could see that -- sneaking past a bunch of satanic cultists, for example. How about a Gabriel Knight game with some combat and some sneaking? An action-adventure game instead of a straight adventure game?

There already has been a Thief-like game with a horror theme. It was called Thief.

Apologies for being sassy, but Thief's The Haunted Cathedral level was probably the only time I've been scared (not startled) playing a game.

OK, so the whole game wasn't horror. But a good deal of it was. If they could make an entire game as scary as The Haunted Cathedral, it'd would be great. For them. I don't think I'd want to play it.

As for Undying: I bought it, thought it was fun for a bit, then got really fed up with the non-house levels. I don't mind locked doors, but I'm with Jeff K on any game that has Nali Healing Fruit.

Heh -- the wisdom of Jeffk is formidable. Undying's better in small doses, I think. The atmosphere erodes and the built-in frustrations grow the longer you play it in one setting.

Yes, the haunted cathedral levels in Thief 1 were really eerie. I think overall thats the scariest 2 hours of gaming ive ever had! Though. for me, i choose SS2 as the scariest game ever, the overall mood in SS2 was of dread ...

There's something about fear factor in games, it makes the game more alive to me.

Also, I was thinking the same exact thing with Satanic Cultists in modern times Thief game. Silent Hill kind of did that.

etc

Yup. Shame Silent Hill won't come to PC. Regrettably, MS's cross-licensing deal with Konami seems to have extended only to Metal Gear Solid (and, presumably, to the incoming MGS2) on the PC side. (I guess Silent Hill's just too visceral for MS's family-oriented gaming agenda.)
