"A potentially great game smothered in bad scripting. The missions are long, cannot be saved, and don't keep up a sense of consistent internal logic. Because of this, playing Hitman is like playing a latter day version of Thief with someone watching over your shoulder who regularly resets the level and shrieks, 'No! Wrong! Go back and do it over again!'"

No mid-mission save. That's a death sentence for a PC action game. When will game developers get this through their twisted little skulls?

I don't really understand why they don't have in-mission saves, or at least checkpoint saves. Tension is great, but no one likes redoing the same parts of a mission over and over again.

Soldier of Fortune was innovative in that you could set the number of saves per mission you could have. If you wanted to challenge yourself, you could.

They have continues which start you after key events in the level. At least they did when I played it...

Each mission has only one or two continues, then you have to completely restart it. Also, the continues will occasionally drop you right back into combat and they don't reset the alarm state. They're only occasionally helpful, and even then they're pretty limited. The worst thing about Hitman is that it was so close to being so much better.

I've got three kids under 5. There is precisely zero chance of me having 30 or more minutes uninterrupted to play a game. No mid-mission saves = no sale.

Supertanker, that's a really good point. I have four kinds and there's a constant stream of things to be done that interrupt me.

Too often a lack of an in-mission save is meant to disguise a weak AI and lengthen the game.

I saw on the Shugashack that there is an effort to get an in-game save for another game I like but won't buy without said save: Project IGI. Sign the petition if you feel moved: IGI Save Petition
